Rederivation Service Announcement

Dear UIC Investigative Staff,

I wanted to reach out to provide an update regarding the re-opening of the rodent rederivation service. First, I would like to thank everyone for their patience during this challenging time navigating the construction project and change in personnel. We recognize that our rederivation service is critical in providing support to the UIC research program. We are excited to resume but would like to take this opportunity to outline a few changes regarding the future of the service:

Rederivation will continue to be available for small to medium volumes of imported strains. However, due to staffing and resources, we will not be able to support large rederivation projects (10+ strains) at one time. Large projects will have to be supported by commercial rederivation services. If you have any questions on your specific project, please reach out to Dr. Cyndy Adams to further discuss.

The fees associated with rederivation are being re-assessed and are projected to increase to account for the increase costs of testing, supplies, and labor. In 2025, we will formally announce the new fee structure. Until then, we will continue with the current fee schedule.

Due to the extremely high volume of rederivation requests since the service was temporarily closed, we are re-opening in a staged manner and are planning to process inquiries/requests based on the order they were received up to this point. We anticipate between the end of August and mid-October to work on this backlog of requests. To avoid confusion, and if you have any flexibility in the timing of your request, we kindly ask that you wait until October to start submitting new requests.

As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
