Animal Operations (AOPS) – Town Hall Meetings

Dear UIC Research Staff,
As previously announced, the BRL will transition to a new electronic animal operations system (AOPS) beginning September 1st, 2026. All BRL transactions including animal orders, imports/exports, transfers, and billing will be performed in AOPS.
The BRL will be hosting several town halls outlined below to provide training on this new system. It is imperative that investigative staff attend these training sessions and/or review training guides provided as there will be many changes to current business processes. Knowing and understanding the new processes will help minimize potential delays in animal transactions after September 1st. Training sessions will be recorded and will be available on the BRL website (https://brl.uic.edu/animal-operations/) along with PowerPoint slides and training materials. Additionally, the following email address will be monitored to answer questions during this transition process: AOPsHelpBRL@uic.edu
The town hall meetings will be held virtually on the following dates listed below.  The Zoom links to access the virtual town hall meetings can be found here.
Wednesday, July 15th 1pm – Introduction and review of dashboard
Wednesday, July 22nd 1pm – Animal orders/imports/exports/transfers
Wednesday, July 29th 1pm – Managing financial accounts/billing
-There will be a change in the billing structure to be protocol-based and BRL account numbers will no longer be used.
-Business/grant/lab managers and/or department staff associated with finances should attend this meeting.
As a reminder, it is anticipated that there will be a two-week period (August 21st – September 1st) during which we will be unable to accept any new/incoming animal orders, imports/exports, or transfers.  Please plan your studies accordingly.
We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we work to smoothly transition to this new platform.
Sincerely,
BRL staff
